Is The Body Shop A Scam? (Their Business Model And Integrity)

Is The Body Shop a scam? The Body Shop is not a scam. However, from my investigation. They appear to be somehow questionable, that’s why I can’t recommend them.

Skin Care and cosmetics are part of the booming industries worldwide. There is no doubt that most business companies would invest in this. Even in the world of marketing, they can attest to this that the total cost of what people spend is worth millions when it comes to their physical appearances.

If you are going to search online you will notice that there are different kinds of beauty or skin lines that invite people also to sell their product and get a commission from it. Who would have thought that you could also earn from what you consume?

You might be lured into being in agreement with them however, there are some precautions that you need to be mindful of when making these transactions.

What is The Body Shop?

The Body Shop is a British Beauty line known for its organic products ranging from body, face, hair, and home! And it has thousands of store outlets around the world. It was founded by Anita Roddick in 1976, so the store has been working now for more than four decades.

But they are not simply into the products but they also have marketing strategies that also work and income for other people. They call it, The Body Shop at Home

They have this business model called Multi-Level Marketing or MLM. Basically, in MLM you are hired as a distributor and earn a commission from your sales, but it doesn’t end in that.

You are also required to recruit more new distributors, and you will get a commission from their sales in addition to the commission that you are getting from your own sales. The nature of this business is direct sales or personal selling.

How does it work?

The Body Shop at Home calls their distributors Beauty Consultants or Independent Consultants. To start with them, there is a £49 fee with a Beauty Kit, digital tools, and ongoing training.

The body shop at home commission structure is quite simple. In your first 28 days with them, you will get extra products to boost your Beauty Kit. You will earn 25-30% as a commission from your sales!

However, there are further provisions before you earn the commission. You will get a 25% commission on all your sales up to £599.99. If you are able to hit £600 sales in a month then they will give you an additional percentage on the commission.

There are also variations on the Beauty Kit products that you will get. You might not have the freedom to choose and get pre-orders for it.

The matter of facts!

The offers they give are not that bad! But do not give in yet because we have to check first how true these claims and promises that they say.

Growing you Downline

Since they have an MLM business structure, then you really have to make sure that you are also growing your downlines or the people that you were able to invite to join The Body Shop at Home

They encourage you to host a House Party wherein you can invite your friends to join and get personalized advice or guidance from mentors. The aim is for your friends to sign up or join the team!

The average earning you can get from one House Party is roughly £50. And it highly depends on how big your circle of friends are or who are the people you invited to the House Party.

Typically it takes four to five House Parties to earn £1000+ in a month.

Looking at the reality of it, you need to earn at least £700 per party to hit the £1000 commission! Again, there is no assurance of getting the earnings exactly as you want it to be.

Uplines

You will be added to various Facebook groups, one for each of the uplines that you are under. Well, the higher uplines simply tell you to push harder and buy more products to widen and increase your Beauty Kit.

Income

The commission you will get does not take into account the expenses that you make, like for example, your mileage to travel to the host parties that you set, your discount offers, marketing materials, and if you are into vanity URLs.

Your commission is not your whole profit. You have to deduct or minus all the expenses and capital that you spent, and then the remaining of it is your profit.

Consequences

If you are not able to get the target sales then they will suspend you from selling. This is not mentioned upon sign-up but may be discussed as you go along with their training.

Also, if you are thinking of not recruiting anyone, that will also make it a bad business for you. Why? Because selling the product is not profitable enough even if you host house parties. You also need to earn commission from your downlines.

What to do with the products that you were not able to sell? Most of the consultants who experienced this said that they have no choice but to use them or simply give them away.

What do others have to say about the body shop at home?

The Body Shop at Home is a direct-selling program allowing individuals to sell Its products from the comfort of their homes.

However, there have been reports of issues with the program’s consultant support team and complaints from customers regarding the quality of their products.

Problem With The Consultant Support Team

According to some consultants, they must pay to receive the free products they’ve earned.

Additionally, they are upset about the consultant support team lying to them about certain matters. And even if they provide proof, no action will be taken unless they know the consultant’s ID and address.

Aside from those, I also discovered some customers were unsatisfied with their products.

Here are some of the reviews about their products that I found on BBB and trustpilot:

Changes In Product Ingredients

As per the feedback received from some customers, it has been alleged that The Body Shop changed their product’s ingredients without any prior notification.

Such a move can concern customers with specific allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients.

Additionally, customers who attempted to return the product were reportedly asked to pay for the shipping costs, which can be an inconvenience and an additional cost burden.

Odd Smell With The Products

A screenshot of the review about the product of the body shop having an odd smell

Many customers have voiced their disappointment with the quality of the current products on offer, noting a peculiar and unpleasant odor reminiscent of paraffin.

This starkly contrasts the fragrances of the products previously available in the market, which were more appealing and pleasant to the senses.

The discrepancy in scent has caused concern among some customers who are hesitant to purchase the new products, citing the lack of quality assurance and the possibility of harmful chemicals.

The review regarding their products matters. Why? It can significantly impact how easily you can sell the products. If The Body Shop doesn’t address these issues, consultants will have a hard time selling the products they have.

Is The Body Shop a Scam?

Nope, The Body Shop is not a scam because they really pay and give their consultants their commission. However, the risks come from the Consultants who are building their downlines and the issues with their products nowadays.

There was mishandling of finances and setting their friends into a trap in their House Party. You can see these stories online wherein the consultants were found to be in debt because they could not sell the products.

This has been clarified by the Body Shop at Home, and they are against it as stated in their rules.

Is it a personal issue or company-wise? A mixture of both. All businesses come with risks and costs. You just have to be wise and realistic when it comes to your goal and your capacity to do it.

It is a different story if you have the right people to contact and are financially capable of spending capital and losses. Then the chances of getting income are higher.
