Blogging has become a fun, social, and past-time recreation for many in today’s age. Of course, when people start thinking about blogging, they also start to think about making money. Can you actually make money with blogging on a website, or does it not work?
Below, we’ll go through several ways on how to make money with a blog website, and give you advice on how to start earning from the blog that you may (or may not) have.
So let’s go!
First Thing – Making Sure Your Site Revolves Around One Topic!
The first thing you want to do is make sure that you’re writing relevant content that brings the topic back to one thing. For example, if you have a gold-fish blog, then make sure you only write about gold-fish.
Why is this so important?
Because, when you go to earn money, you’ll have a higher amount earned, if you have relevant articles for people to read, as they’ll want to stay on your site longer.
If someone comes to your gold-fish blog, and then sees that strange article about Siberian Tigers, they most likely won’t read that article, since it has nothing to do with the first reason why they came to the site – gold-fish.
Make sense?
The reason staying on one topic is because then people will want to stay on your site, and read other articles (ones that may have ways for you to make money), and thus, you’ll end up pocketing more profit because of it.
Become An Affiliate Marketer To Make Money!
One of the most easy ways to make money is by becoming an affiliate marketer. What this is, is just a fancy phrase for one who finds a product they want to promote, and then does just that – promote it!
There are programs out there, where you can sign up, and they’ll give you a unique URL to their site (so that they know if anyone clicks on it, it’s coming from you). If you can get people to click on the link, and buy something through it, you’ll usually earn 2%-30% of what the person paid.
So, for example, if your gold-fish blog has an article about the best gold-fish foods, you could have affiliate links to your favorite foods, and if people buy them (through your link), you’ll make some money off of it.
Now, affiliate marketing goes hand-in-hand with the previous point – making sure you stick with only one topic. How does this tie together?
If you write about gold-fish health in one article, (and have the gold-fish food article as well), you can link your gold-fish food article inside your gold-fish health article, and people will more likely click to the next article to see what you say about the food.
But if you had written about Siberian Tiger food (if there even is such a thing), then most people probably wouldn’t have clicked through it.
There are many programs out there that teach you how to make money with affiliate marketing. I personally recommend Wealthy Affiliate, as they do a nice job, and are the #1 program that I’ve earned the most money from so far online with my blogs.
Wealthy Affiliate has a free starter membership, where you’ll be given free training, a free trial to their keyword research tool, and even two free websites to start your blog (if you haven’t already).
Running Ads On Your Blog
You might not be interested in all that fancy affiliate marketing stuff, and that is okay. Maybe then, you will want to run ads on your site, and make money from them.
Making money from ads can be challenging. Unfortunately, if you want to make a lot of money, you need a lot of traffic to your site. While there is no real answer on how much you’ll make per thousand visitors, it is safe to say, that you need a lot, and I mean a lot, of traffic to make anything substantial.
But you may be having a lot of traffic, and would be interested in putting ads on. I know one guy who was getting around 600+ from the ads he displayed, though his traffic was over 1000 visitors daily. You can read more about his success in this article here.
There are many different sites that will allow you to run ads on your site. Google Ads is the most well-known site to get ads. While they are pretty good, you might have trouble getting accepted the first time (most people do). Just continue to apply, and reapply, and you’ll be in soon enough.
If you have a lot of traffic, you can try Medavine ads. But you need to have something like 25K visitors a month to use them, or so I’ve heard.
In any case, running ads on your site is a great way to start earning more money from the various blogs posts that you’ve written, and can oftentimes be the answer to making some more pocket-change for you to spend.
Are You An Authority? You Might Be Able To Do Paid Reviews!
If you write constantly about one topic, and write a lot about that one topic alone, then some companies may actually pay you to write reviews for them – unbiased, thoughtful reviews.
That’s why the first step of choosing only one topic is so important. There are a lot of people who are doing this, because they’ve shown that they know what their talking about in their blog, and have become to be seen as an ‘authority’ on the topic.
For example, if you continue to write about gold-fish, there may be a company or two that will ask you to write about their gold-fish bowls and tanks that they sell.
Sometimes companies won’t seek you out, but you can definitely seek them out! If you’ve proven that you know about a certain topic (and have the articles and traffic to prove it), you can always contact certain companies and see if they’ll pay you to do a review of a certain product.
This person does just that, and gets paid pretty well. She actually just continued to write like she was an authority, and then started to market herself as one who did paid reviews, and the jobs started slowly to trickle in.
So if you feel like you write well enough and are an authority in a certain subject, being a writer who does paid review for your own websites is a pretty sweet deal to take.
Paid Guest Posting On Your Blog
This isn’t as easy to get into, nor as popular as the others above, but is definitely is a great way to make money with your blog.
As long as it is popular enough, and a lot of people of reading your blog, then having paid guest posts is a great idea for you to try.
It works two different ways.
You get paid to put content on your site, and keep your readers happy (all while getting paid to do so), while the guest poster gets their writing (and thus their site/product/program) out before more people.
So essentially, it’s a win-win situation. You get to make some money, while the person writing the article gets their name and brand in front of an established audience.
While this is a great idea, it can backfire sometimes. Many people, especially scammers, will pay for something to get their scam program before more people.
You want to make sure you don’t put scammy-looking stuff before your readers, otherwise, you’ll be losing them all too quickly. So you make sure want to make sure you vet all the content before you actually publish it.
In any case, with the right marketing, blog, and traffic, you could make quite a bit with paid guest posting, especially if you’re interested in this sort of thing.
